A new level of consciousness in the way people are treated by organisations
Many organisations continue to treat people as a number. It’s an attitude where people are seen as objects, as resources or human ‘capital’ exploited and used for the benefit of others.
At Apex HR, we believe need to rise above this outdated and damaging level of thinking.
A prevailing view of capitalist systems existing solely to maximise profits has largely driven this mindset and subsequent behaviour.
Capitalism has done many great things for the world; it is still by far the best human invention for lifting people out of poverty and raising living standards.
Like all systems invented by people, it is capable of abuse. When profit maximisation is fuelled by greed and self-interest without any responsibility for the impact on the human and natural systems of which it is part, this is a big problem.
We need a new level of consciousness in the way people are treated by organisations. It cannot be acceptable to make huge profits whilst trashing the planet and damaging the health of the very people who create the profits. It is not sustainable.
How do we begin to change things?
When we adopt a human first mindset, we begin to place people truly and authentically at the heart of an organisation. It says through our behaviours and actions that our organisation serves to meet the needs of our people, not the other way around.
We can choose to cultivate healthy, vibrant organisations where people are treated as unique human beings and feel safe to do their best work for our organisations. It is a more ethical and responsible way to do business.
How are we going to cultivate the better, healthier, and more sustainable workplaces we need in the future?
We believe the answer lies in a willingness to change our individual mindset. To show up every day with a mindset where we lift people up, help them realise their full potential and nourish their development as human beings. It starts with us.
This, combined with collective efforts to work to change the wider system so that it better serves people, and the planet is desperately needed. Many people believe the system cannot be changed; we completely reject this. Systems ultimately are made by people and can therefore be remade or reimagined by people. Anything is possible. We are not powerless.
The challenges facing the world means we cannot afford to sit back and wait for others to act. It starts with us, right here and right now. It all happens one conversation at a time, where we normalise caring for people as human beings. It begins to excite and inspire people around a better future.
The future belongs to organisations who humanise their workplaces. The purpose is clear, and compelling. The purpose is noble and ensures our needs as human beings are met, so it is more likely to lead to better financial results and sustained success for any organisation which adopts this mindset.
