The heart of the HR profession

“Never before have we needed HR to not be HR more than we do now” [Jacob Morgan, author of the Employee Experience Advantage].

At Apex, we believe HR needs to reinvent itself. We need to challenge the way we think about HR’s role in organisations and rethink tired and outdated approaches.

Here are some key areas we believe HR can do this:

HR needs to move from a fixation on rules, policy and procedure to a relentless focus on human beings, adaptive performance and developing meaningful relationships

HR needs to shift from a focus on compliance and policing of rules to building cultures of care for the people who create the value in our organisations HR needs to embrace technology without losing the human touch. Technology should strengthen the human experience, not be a substitute for it.

HR needs to put the humanity firmly back into the heart of our profession. It is the Human not the Resources bit in HR that really matters.

HR needs to be brave and recognise its own shortcomings and where it needs to improve. We need to be prepared to step outside of comfort zones and traditional ways of working.

HR can be a truly great profession, but we need more HR rebels who are prepared to constructively disrupt the status quo and bring about meaningful change.
