Tackling Workplace Cultures of Fear

Apex HR believe that one of the most important jobs for any business leader is to eliminate fear from their workplace.

A fear-based culture can be harmful for business performance and damages the lives of the people working in the organization. Wherever cultures of fear exist, leaders need to tackle this and create safe environments for people to do their work.

When leaders align behaviour with strong values and make decisions that show they care about people in their organizations they reduce fear and build trust. These are the leaders who demonstrate a deep value for people, who build safe environments where people feel both physically and psychologically safe. The importance of psychological safety should not be underestimated given the rise in mental health related issues within organizations.

We need to move away from cultures of internalised fear, towards cultures of authentic caring and trust. It starts with leadership.

This is how we’ll eliminate fear and make work more human. Happier and more fulfilled people who are more creative, which is great for team performance, great for our customers, and also strengthens our business brand too.
